Requirements for a Major in History
Thirty-six semester hours of history including the following:
- HIS 1305, 1307, 1365, 1366, and 2395
- Twenty-one semester hours of history including the following:
- Six semester hours of upper-level U.S. History
- Six semester hours in upper-level European History
- Six semester hours in upper-level Global History (African, Asian, Latin American, or Middle Eastern)
- Three additional hours of 2000-4000 history
- Three of the twenty-one semester hours listed above must be fulfilled by a capstone seminar in either U.S. History, European History, or Global History.
- At least six of the twenty-one semester hours must be at the "4000" level. The capstone will fulfill three of these six hours.
- Students completing World Cultures I, II, III, and IV in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core receive credit toward the major for HIS 1305 and HIS 1307 by petition.
- A grade of "C" or better must be earned in HIS courses used for the major.
Requirements for a Secondary Major in History
Thirty-three semester hours of history including the following:
- HIS 1305, 1307, 1365, 1366, and 2395
- An additional six semester hours in U.S. history
- An additional six semester hours in European history
- An additional six semester hours in Global history (African, Asian, Latin American, or Middle Eastern)
- A Capstone Seminar in either U.S. History, European History, or Global History
- At least six of the thirty-three semester hours must be at the "4000" level.
- Students completing World Cultures I, II, III, and IV in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core receive credit toward the major for HIS 1305 and 1307 by petition.
- A grade of "C" or better must be earned in HIS courses used for major.
Requirements for a Minor in History
Eighteen semester hours of history including the following:
- Nine semester hours of 1000-2000 level history courses
- Nine of the eighteen semester hours must be at the "3000" or "4000" level
- Students completing World Cultures I, II, III, and IV in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core receive credit toward the minor for HIS 1305 and HIS 1307 by petition
