Baylor History Department Chair and Associate Professor, Dr. Julie deGraffenried, was recently named a Fellow of the prestigious Royal Historical Society.

Founded in 1868 and based at University College London, the Royal Historical Society is the UK’s foremost society for historians representing the interests of historical researchers across a wide range of disciplines, from scholars to museum curators to broadcasters to public, community, and family historians. Fellowships are awarded to historians who make significant, impactful research contributions to their fields through their scholarly work, and prospective fellows must be supported by an existing Royal Historical Society Fellow to be considered for the honor.

Earning a fellowship from the Royal Historical Society is recognition of years of proven excellence in the field of history.

“Election as a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society is meaningful to me,” says Dr. deGraffenried, “because it affirms my scholarly work as valuable, recognizes excellence in the Department of History at Baylor, and is a ‘thank you’ to all the many colleagues and family members who contribute to both. Plus, who doesn’t like extra initials behind their signature?”

In addition to garnering this top historical honor, Dr. deGraffenried also recently published a co-edited book with Dr. Michael Long and Xenia Dennen, Freedom of Conscience in (Post)Soviet Space; Legacies of Michael Bordeaux and the Keston Collection

Congratulations, Dr. deGraffenried, on all you have accomplished!
